Throwing a street party this year?
Earlier this month, the Eden Project promoted the ‘Big Lunch’, this government backed initiative is to encourage people that live in the same neighbourhood to get together and enjoy
home-made food together. Over 700,000 people took part last year so why not get involved and organise a street party in your neighbourhood? You probably already vaguely know the people that live on your street, but why not get to know them better and put together an event that could bring your neighbourhood closer together?
We think this is a great excuse for a party and an opportunity to build a stronger bond between families that live in your area. As adults, we tend to make our friends and stick with them and don’t socialise as much as we did when we were younger. So bring the children along, plan your event and get to know your neighbours better over great home-made food, you never know there might be some great cooks on your street, which is always good to know!
Here are some ideas to help you to plan your own party;
- Get each household to bring a dish from a different country, that way you get to try different dishes as well as experimenting with your own cooking skills.
- Have a street BBQ, this may require more than one BBQ but the relaxed atmosphere of a BBQ especially when the weather is good can’t be beaten!
- Go for a picnic, if your street is a less than desirable place to eat or if you’re getting together with a few people on different streets or live in flats, then why not take a picnic to your local park? There will be plenty of room for everyone and you won’t get in the way of those who didn’t want to join the party.
- Have a tea party, if making enough food to feed a whole street just sounds like too much hard work then go for a tea party instead. So long as there is plenty of tea, enough milk and something sweet to nibble on, everyone should be happy.
Visit www.thebiglunch.com for more details and ideas of how to get your own street party started.
Summer time
We’ve gone into full on summer mode and couldn’t be happier to finally be wearing our flip-flops, sundresses and leaving our coats at home! Here are a few fashion updates for high summer that will update your look and hopefully uplift your mood too;
Tan accessories – shoes, belts and bags in tan look great when worn with crisp white or light natural colours. It’s a simple yet sophisticated look and fits in with this season’s utility and safari trends. Darker shades of brown will also work, especially with more natural tones but tan is lighter, brighter and looks so good with white.
Alternative prints – now that high summer is here we feel like we can have a bit more fun with our clothing and so fun beach style prints have taken over from the more serious graphic/tribal prints we have been wearing. Try an oversized tee shirt with a palm tree print for beach bound chic.
Raffia bags – you know summer has arrived when everyone starts digging out their raffia bags! Make yours a clutch rather than a tote and use in the evening instead of day time for extra fashion points.
Simple sandals – as fashion makes a return to minimalism (a huge trend for Autumn/Winter 2010 too by the way) even our footwear gets a minimal make-over. We do still enjoy our gladiator sandals from last summer as they are comfortable and give an edge to a floral frock. However more simple designs are taking over from the crazy number of buckles and straps of gladiator styles.
Summer hats – we’re not a nation of hat wearers but we think everyone should own at least a couple of hats, even if it is to disguise a bad hair day, you can still look fashionable! Boaters are the latest style of hats to hit the fashion stakes, these have a much more structured shape than panama styles and have a stiffer rim. This particular shape should be worn towards the back of the head as opposed to dipped down covering the eyes like the panama style. We are still fans of the classic panama style however; go for a light straw material and black band for the perfect summer accessory or something a bit more fun and colourful for festivals and outdoor events.
We’re in chains
Lovely layered gold chain necklaces that is! So you’ve done the layered look with your clothes but have you tried layering your jewellery? The rule for jewellery this season is the more, the merrier and this applies to bangles, rings and necklaces as well as experimenting with more eclectic pieces such as toe rings and anklets that we only usually consider during summer months and with a pending summer holiday. Achieving the layered look, without appearing as though you’re playing dress up with your mother’s jewellery box, takes practice. For necklaces keep the styles simple but alternate length, delicate chains with small charm details look great when worn together. Avoid wearing chains that are too thick as even though the A-Team film is being reworked we don’t want to recreate the Mr. T look! Go bo-ho by piling on the bangles, keep them light and dainty or go thick and heavy with contrasting materials for a more urban feel. If you’re feeling extra daring then try an arm bangle, these are more difficult to pull off but when worn with the right outfit (think urban bo-ho in simple but quirky summer dresses and straw hat combos) they finish off the look perfectly. With rings, the bigger the better rule applies and wearing more than one huge ring is no longer a fashion faux-pas! Plus big rings have already been spotted on the catwalks for Autumn/Winter 2010, so this really is a trend worth investing in.
Tops, tops and more tops!!
As well as giving you a range of great basic tops, we have some more fashionable styles too that will keep you happy and fully supported whatever the occasion.
* Hit the nautical trend with the side button jersey vest, the navy colour and white stripe detailing gives this top a fresh feel, wear with white linen trousers to complete the cruise look or go for jeans for a more casual take on this trend. And who knows, looking this good, you might even bag yourself a sailor!
* There’s nothing like a cute check top to celebrate the summer and this particular style has everything; gorgeous pink and blue check print, flattering empire line and cross over front, thick straps to cover your bra and to top it all off nicely; a tie back and button detailing. Summer picnic attire sorted!
* Looking for a top that is smart enough for an occasion but also gives great support and fit? Then we might just have what you’re looking for. Our embellished cotton cami combines a wrap over style front and empire line shape with a gorgeous green colour and sequin/embroidery detail. This top will look sensational with this season’s must have white jeans.
* We think our cotton pleat detail top is the top equivalent of a little black dress, it’s fitted, flattering and is sure to get you noticed! The empire line and low cut of this top will give your boobs a real boost and a little black top goes with everything, especially when it fits this well! If you love the shape of the top then why not try the dress version? The cotton pleat summer dress is just as flattering but comes in a much braver shade of orange it’s a cool comfortable dress that we think you’ll wear all summer!
Is it the end for Sex and the City?
Our worst fears have been confirmed as the SATC girls call a day on what has been one of favourite series of all time. The second film did receive some negative reviews, but we loved it anyway! Was it OTT? Yes. Was it highly unbelievable? Yes. But who cares, if it was based on reality the girls would’ve gone to Blackpool (or the US equivalent) and they’d have been wearing high street not high end fashion! One thing we did notice however was that the chemistry seemed different in the sequel, dare we say it, forced. Obviously the elaborate situation in which the girls found themselves i.e. out in the desert riding camels, was far removed from their normal filming routine in New York. But there was still something not quite right in the sequel film, as if the spark had fizzled a little between the foursome. We have to remember though that the actresses have very different lives off screen. SJP is a mother, Kim Cattrall is busy doing theatre and we have to respect the fact that these women have spent a lot of time in each others pockets, so there’s little wonder the chemistry wasn’t quite the same in the second film (even us devout SATC followers have to admit that).
We must be grateful however for the 12 years of Sex and the City we have had, that’s 94 episodes and the two films of course, so maybe it is time for the girls to hang up the Manolos and concentrate on other areas of their lives. We’re not saying that we wouldn’t be delighted if the girls changed their minds and a third film was to come about to conclude as a trilogy but until then we have the box set, the first film on DVD and are eagerly awaiting the release of the second film.
Work wear doesn’t have to be boring!
Although we are sometimes envious of men for their ability to just throw on a suit, shirt and tie, maybe have a quick shave and leave the house ready for work in the space it takes us to wash our hair, we are grateful for the fact that we can be a little more creative with what we wear for work. Anyway, we can wear suits ourselves and look just as good in them, remember Kate from the last The Apprentice series? She worked the androgynous look so well we were all toying with the idea of tie wearing for work.
Now that it seems the summer has finally arrived, perspiration marks on public transport and all, it’s all the more important to make clever clothing decisions, especially for work. Being comfortable is key, but we also know that many women are more confident when they feel they look good. These great summer pieces should ensure that you keep your cool, whilst looking hot this summer…
- Linen is a great summer fabric, it is light and airy but smart enough for most offices. The luxe linen skirt in chocolate brown makes a great alternative to black. Wear with natural earthy tones for the utility look or keep it simple with a bright white top. Our tailored safari dress also comes in cool linen and will help to keep you on trend in the office this summer.
- The washed cotton dress in khaki is a fantastic basic to have in your wardrobe and can be worn smart for the office or team with funky accessories and flip-flops for the day time.
- Our pebble shift dress and co-ordinating cropped jacket make the perfect two-piece that is modern, on trend and a fabulous fit! Both pieces work well on their own and the dress can be accessorised with your own personal touch by adding your own belt, jacket or corsage. These items will definitely help you to keep your cool at work, but we also appreciate an air-conditioned office!
Fun, flirty and floral
Have some fun on the beach this summer with our funky floral bikinis, in an array of different styles and shapes we’re sure you’ll find the perfect fit! The India bikini in white with shimmering silver details that catch the sun will look great with a tan and add a little glamour to your beach wear. The ruched sides make this a very clever bikini too as it allows you to adjust the fullness of the cups, plus choose from tie side or ruched briefs according to your preference.
The contrasting colours of the Flirty Floral bikini are sure to get you noticed, that’s if the boob boosting effect of this gorgeous bikini/tankini set doesn’t! Tankinis are a great alternative for those of you that like to feel more covered up on the beach and are conscious of the tummy area. However, this style is grown up and will give you just as much of a boob boost as the bikini version! If you like the sound of that then you might also like the Fabulous Fuschia bikini/tankini too! This particular style goes up to a K cup so no matter what your size, you can feel supported and uplifted in this hot pink set! For the ultimate in bo-ho chic this summer why not try the Paisley bikini, this gorgeous print is soft and feminine but ensures great support all day long. With double string, ruffle and low centre front detailing this bikini has more than enough features to get you noticed. The soft colours and subtle print also suits most skin tones. Cover up with our Halterneck Beach Dress and add some bohemian inspired jewellery to take this bikini from beach to pool side lunch or drinks in no time!
You can’t beat a great fitting, boob boosting bikini for ultimate pool side confidence!
Back to basics
If you’re fed up of struggling to find tops that fit and feel like you always have to compromise on something, whether it’s the size or the style just to get your boobs in, then fear not Bravissimo is here! It’s amazing that something as simple as a well fitting top can make a girl so happy, but here at Bravissimo we understand just how frustrating it can be when you can’t find the right fit. We also understand how liberating it can feel when you do. That’s why we’ve sourced some great fitting and flattering tops that will fit your style as well as your boobs!
Each of our tops is designed to fit and flatter bigger boobs, whilst also offering the highest amount of comfort and support. We have a great range of everyday basic tops that will become staples in your wardrobe as well as more fashion forward tops that are stylish AND fabulous fitting in sizes 8-18, curvy – super curvy.
Thought you couldn’t wear strapless? Think again! Our basic tops have a built in bra with bra back fastening, underwires and moulded cups for the ultimate fit and support. The bandeau strappy top offers all this support and the option to wear as a halterneck or strapless. In shades of emerald green, lemon, orange and white, all you have to do now is decide which colour you want! (We think strapless tops are great for avoiding those oh so embarrassing tan marks when you get caught out in the sun, just remember the sun cream so you don’t burn those bare shoulders!) If you feel more secure wearing tops with straps then try the classic vest top in black, red and white which gives great support and the built in bra means no showing bra straps or awkward lines created underneath. This style is perfect too for layering under shirts and cardigans as well as looking great worn as it is!
The pintuck jersey top doesn’t have integral support but it does have plenty of room for your boobs and is machine washable, unlike some of the tops with built in bras. It comes in a choice of black, white, red or sea green and looks as good with a pencil skirt and jacket as it does with linen trousers and flip-flops, a real wardrobe staple!
Fun swimwear
Swimwear has become fashionable and is now as important as your summer wardrobe! We love classic spots, stripes and checks for beach time fun and we’re just going dotty for this 50’s inspired polka dot bikini. The Soprano bikini in classic black and white is fun, funky and fashionable, just what we want for our summer holiday. The tie detailing gives this bikini a feminine touch so you’ll feel confident and fully supported on the beach. Sticking with the dot theme is the Cocopalm bikini with a choice of deep briefs or tie side briefs. This bikini has light padding for extra oomph and the warm shades of purple and orange will look sensational with your holiday tan. Going on holiday is all about getting away from it all, the stress of everyday life and your normal routine, but we know that you also like to look your best when hitting the beach. The striped Miami bikini has a choice of alterneck or triangle style top so that you can choose the right style that you feel most comfortable in. Either way, this bikini is colourful, cheerful and cleavage boosting! The fold brief option gives you the choice to cover up a little more too, this style of brief sits higher on the hips for those of you that like to feel more covered. Bring out your flirty side in our Gingham bikini, this gorgeous bikini is pretty, feminine and a little bit cheeky. The lightly padded cups ensure a boob boost whilst the ruffle details add a fun girlie feel. Choose from high waist deep briefs that give this bikini a 50’s scarlet look or the low rise briefs with ruffled hem for a more modern look.
Well, you didn’t want boring swimwear did you?!
Organisation is key
Ever feel like your clothes are taking over your home? Are you guilty of using a floordrobe instead of a wardrobe? Then it’s time to get organised! Having a good sort out of the contents of your wardrobes/drawers/piles of clothes you have is great way to become more organised in your outfit choices too! It should also make it much easier to get dressed in a morning, especially if you can actually find the top you want to wear that goes perfectly with that skirt.
Clothes should be organised in a way that makes sense to you. However;
- Organising by style makes it easier to put an outfit together and will also help when you need to find something quickly.
- You can also sort by casual wear and evening wear, keeping your best clothes separate is a good idea when particular fabrics are concerned. Silks can be kept away from more abrasive textures and fabrics such as cashmere should always be stored in moth-proof bags, particularly this time of year, they do go for the good stuff!
- Sorting by colour can make picking out an item much easier, this will help you to distinguish which colours you tend to go for the most and what colours are missing from your wardrobe. We all have our ‘safe’ colours, but by organising your clothes and finding out which colours are missing could open a whole new exciting area for you to explore.
- Don’t stop at clothes get your shoes, accessories and handbags organised too! Having accessories such as belts and jewellery on display will encourage you to wear what you have rather than sticking to the same old pieces. We can often forget we have certain accessories when they are kept tucked away in a drawer or cupboard, so by seeing them we might remember to wear them and make the most of the accessories we already have!
Unfortunately we can’t all have a walk-in wardrobe à la Carrie Bradshaw, but most of us could better organise the clothes we do have to make the most of what we’ve already got and you never know what hidden gems you might find tucked away at the back of your wardrobe!
