The floral trend has taken centre stage on the catwalk this spring/summer, closely followed by colour blocking and the polka dot. ‘Floral’ is reinvented year on year, and this summer we have seen the ditsy flower , the abstract splashy flower, and the classic vintage floral as inspired by Dolce and Gabbana’s collection. There has been a sea of flowers everywhere you look on the high street and they will be with us for some time yet. Autumn/Winter will see new big, bold and brave blooms paraded.

If you are not quite ready to say hello to the hollyhocks and welcome the wildflowers to your wardrobe, how about introducing something flamboyant and flowery to your lingerie drawer? A well-known fashion retailer has been selling a bra (like hot cakes, if you’ll excuse the pun), which increases your bust appearance by two sizes. There has been such a demand lately for bust enhancing bras, that this same retailer has now produced a bikini that does the same thing, so the store has introduced a gel-filled bikini top that will boost your assets by two cup sizes. Not since the ‘Wonderbra’ of the Eighties has there been such a desire by women to increase their bust size and also replicate the classic hourglass figure of the Fifties. This new trend has been partly inspired by Christina Hendricks, who plays Joan Holloway in the American TV show Mad Men. Her boobs aren’t disguised, she dresses to enhance and flatter her bust at all times. She was voted the ‘sexiest woman in the world’ in 2010 in a poll of female readers taken by Esquire magazine, and Vivienne Westwood has described Hendricks as “the embodiment of beauty.” She is a great role model for Bravissimo ladies (even if she doesn’t know it yet).

We know it’s only Wednesday, but the schools are shut and this time of year is always extra busy, so the middle of the week is an acceptable time to start planning the weekend ahead.

There are many great towns and cities in Britain (outside London) that are perfect for a day’s shopping; Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Manchester, Cambridge and Brighton to name but a few. So why not indulge yourself and round up a couple of girlfriends and plan a day away? If you have children you could leave them with your partner (get him involved!). Sometimes school holidays can be more stressful and exhausting, so a break and a change of scenery to recharge your batteries will make you feel re-energized as you tackle the rest of the holidays. If you are single, just pick up the phone, your friends will be glad that someone has taken the initiave to organize something.

As its summer, let’s take a closer look at the city of Brighton and Hove on the south coast. Prince Regent made the area fashionable after his first visit in 1783; he fell in love with Brighton and went on to commission the building of The Royal Pavilion. In 1841 with the arrival of the railway, Brighton was more accessible to Londoners, it attracted many day trippers, the town was also known as a health resort, as the seawater was thought to bring many health benefits. Brighton is often known as ‘London by the Sea’, as it is just 50 minutes train journey from Victoria. Its population is made up of students from all over the world, young families and famously has a vibrant gay scene.

You will not get bored in Brighton, there is plenty to do. If you are there early enough you could have a delicious breakfast at Bill’s Produce Store (The Depot, 100 North Road), or for a traditional ‘greasy spoon’ you could go to Cafe Motu (6 Trafalgar Street), a no frills café that serves a fantastic English breakfast.

Then you could take a slow amble through the North Laines, and look at all the amazing independent shops selling vintage clothes, baby clothes, lovely homewear and beautiful jewellery. You could then book yourself in at The Treatment Rooms (New Road), a beauty salon and day spa. They offer all sorts of lovely treatments like a Swedish massage or an aromatherapy facial. You could then have a spot of lunch at Dermot O’Leary’s Fishy Fishy Seafood Brasserie (East Street).

Knickers have certainly changed from thirty years ago. They now come in all shapes, styles and colours. And they can do wondrous things, like make your tummy flatter, your thighs thinner or just look so utterly gorgeous, that they should be worn on the outside of your clothes instead.

A major UK retailer recently reported rocketing sales of their Brazilian knickers. Now I bet, like us at Bravissimo you are scratching your head wondering ‘what exactly do a pair of Brazilian knickers look like?’ If it’s anything like the Brazilian you would receive at the beauty salon, well there won’t be much to them. But we can reliably inform you, that they are a higher cut short, offering no VPL (visible panty line). In our opinion Bravissimo have been offering this very style for quite a while now and there is no denying, that if you do not get on with a thong, this is a fantastic, comfortable alternative that will not show under your clothes, creating that dreaded VPL.

As bras so often take centre stage here at Bravissimo, we thought we would give you a quick lowdown on some of our great knickers that look fabulous, but also work wonders in making the best of your bottom. The Poppy Brief, is cut higher but is wider at the sides than your average brief. It features a lovely poppy print panel on the front, with the contrast of the gorgeous black lace sides, which makes these briefs a very sexy buy.

The Lula Mai brief by Masquerade, is cut lower at the sides, but you will have no VPL with these. They are available in antique ivory, and are a contrast of embroidery and luxurious satin. They have that antique look to them, but are sexy and sophisticated with it; you could also wear these with an ivory bra, as a mix and match option.

The Dotty Spot Shorts by Bravissimo are as cute as anything, Fifties inspired, these shorts have a panel at the front in the red dotty print, with a contrast of aqua sides. They are decorated with three gorgeous bows and a pocket on the back, just to increase the cute factor a little bit more; they are made in a super soft and comfortable fabric too.

The Tango Brief by Panache (which are exclusive to Bravissimo) are a great shape, they are again cut wider at the sides than the average brief and create a wonderful smooth silhouette with no VPL. If you want to bring some colour into your underwear drawer, these briefs will do the trick; they are available in spearmint, deep coral and petrol and plenty more vibrant shades.

The Flirty Frill Bra by Bravissimo in an ivory and pastel floral print mixed with an ivory lace frill. The T-shirt is a hot trend for this summer, whether it’s cropped, slouchy & baggy, or one with a slogan. The T-shirt was initially created from an undergarment used in the 19th century, through cutting the one-piece “union suit” underwear into separate top and bottom garments. The T-shirt has had a long and varied history, it was worn by miners in the late 19th century, because it was perfect to be worn in hot environments. The US navy then issued them as regulation garments during the Spanish-American war. After World War II, veterans began wearing the T-shirt casually with their uniform trousers. Marlon Brando who starred in A Street Car Named Desire in the early 1950s, really made the T-shirt a cool piece of clothing and that’s when it became fashionable as outerwear. In the late 1960s the T-shirt started to be used as an art medium, decorated with bright graphics, cartoon characters and slogans. They could display a political protest, a love of a particular rock band or a souvenir of a holiday destination, like the iconic ‘I ❤ NY’. In the eighties Katherine Hamnett designed her famous outsize slogan T-shirts, like the famous CHOOSE LIFE T-shirt (worn by George Michael of Wham), and NO WAR and SAVE THE WORLD.

A high street lingerie store was featured on a TV programme the other night. The deputy managing director of the company went undercover and worked along side sales girls in various stores as a trainee shop assistant. When she reported back to the MD, her research found that high street lingerie stores were offering more sexy lingerie than ever before and they would need to update their own range if they were to keep up.

There has been much giddiness in the Bravissimo office lately. The biggest boy band in history are touring once again and the ladies who saw them first time around (when they were still at school), are seeing them again and are even more excited at the prospect, if that is at all possible. Every so often on Twitter or Facebook, someone will write “I am so excited, only X amount of hours and counting til Take That!” There is something about those boys that makes them universally loved. A couple of them in the past may have looked like they were going to damage their reputation, but they seem to bounce back monumentally. Maybe, apart from the brilliant music they keep churning out, it is their ‘down to earth’ nature. We all have the feeling, that if we were to bump into any of the Take That boys in a lift, they would be friendly, funny and lacking any ego (apart from Robbie), and obviously they are all just a tad handsome too.
